My summary of Glif before using it — A generative AI tools that lets you generate images, similar to Midjourney and Runway.
How does Glif explain itself in the first minute?
“Create, Remix and Run Magic AI Generators”, followed by the different content types one can create through Glif, varying from images to video. The homepage of Glif contains examples of each content category and I can search for specific Glifs. It means, that once I’m signed in I can use an existing AI output generator to create my own ‘remix’.
How does Glif work? Take the comic generator created by “fablan” for example: I can build my own comic based on his comic generator, by entering my comic’s hero, the style of my comic and my storyline. I can also generate my content from scratch. Let’s say I wanted to create a new ‘Glif’ from scratch:
To build an image, I first enter a prompt to generate an image:
I can then see the output of my prompt in the Glif testing area:
If I want others to build on my image and make it more interesting for them, I can do this by allowing for user input:
Through the text input function, users of my image can change part of the text prompt to change the image output. I can enable them to change what should be on the mountain image that I’ve created, setting “hammocks and palm trees” as a default.
By replacing part of the image prompt with the text input field users can now change the image generated.
By inserting “astronauts” in the input field, my image is generated accordingly.
When I then save and publish my Glif, users will be able to jam on it and create their own remixes of the image I’ve generated.
Main learning point: I probably generated the most basic Glif possible, but the main point of Glif is that the image doesn’t have to be sophisticated to begin with. Glif creators can generate images or memes that can be used as is or remixed any way you like.
