My summary of Websim before using it — I believe that Websim helps create a website in no time, using generative AI.

How does Websim explain itself in the first minute? “Websim is a platform that imagines immersive websites and internets on the fly.” The intro text on websim.ai is pretty sparse, but it’s value proposition is clear: enter a URL and Websim will create “a fully-realized, explorable universe based on your input.”

The main call to action is to start exploring Websim on Discord:

Before I can use Websim I need to review and agree to Websim’s rules:

How does Websim work? It did take me a while to figure out how to start creating my first Websim page. The Websim UI Guide provides useful pointers on things like the Websim navigation and its prompt bar. Back to the Websim homepage, there’s a simple “What would you like to create today?” search, and a recommened LLM (Claude Sonnet 3.5) that’s used to generate a website. I type in a prompt for Websim to generate a website for a freelance journalist marketplace.

Websim then generates a basic, but nice template and a URL for my website which I can then iterate on, complete with journalist profiles, job positing and search capabilities.

I can then bookmark the website or download it so that I can easily find and reuse it.

To iterate on the website you can add new prompts, to change the visual theming of the site or generate new content or functionality for the site.

The site can be downloaded as an HTML file and using a platform like Pantheon to deploy and host on Wordpress or Shopify. If you don’t want to deploy your Websim as a working website, you can use it as a wireframe or visual asset.

Main learning point: I didn’t find the Websim interface the most intuitive to begin with. Once I’d figured out how to get started, creating and iterating on a Websim felt more straightforward and I can see how it helps people to quickly create quality visuals or wireframes.
